Queenslanders will head to the polls on in just over three weeks, on January 31, as announced by Premier Campbell Newman this morning.
He says it will be the most important election the state has seen in many years.
“The Queensland economy is showing significant signs of recovery, and – particularly in uncertain times – it’s vital that we don’t risk stagnation caused by election speculation,” he said.
“It’s become obvious to me we can’t waste any time implementing our strong plan for economic growth and job creation.”
Premier Newman visited Government House in Brisbane today to ask acting Governor Tim Carmody to issue the writs.
