While on the one hand this week State Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk is slamming the Prime Minister for ignoring Queensland, she has now confirmed that they are in negotiation to advance the inland rail project.
The Premier has confirmed that top levels talks are happening as speculation grows about the Queensland Government is considering signing over the existing Goondiwindi to Toowoomba rail corridor to the Commonwealth in exchange for rail and road infrastructure funding.
It’s believed the talks herald an immense announcement about the project.
The deal, if it proceeds, would save the Federal Government from a fight with farmers who do not want land resumptions to build the Brisbane to Melbourne route.
Ms Palaszczuk hasn’t given details but confirmed “conversations are happening” between the state and Commonwealth ahead of next week’s Federal Budget.
“There is some state land that we could look at utilizing for a path for the inland way.”
