A word from Sean Rice at the Goondiwindi Junior Rugby Club ahead of their opening carnival this weekend:
“The Goondiwindi Junior Emus will take to the field this Saturday for the traditional opening carnival to be held here in Goondiwindi at Riddles Oval.
This is the first round of the Darling Downs Junior Rugby season, and brings over 600 young players and their parents to town.
We will be hosting 10 different junior clubs with teams coming from Dalby, Toowoomba and Warwick.
It’s always a great day and gives the kids plenty of rugby and their parents, friends and families plenty of time to mingle around and catchup with everyone.
There’s a great canteen on offer run by Nat Woods and Mardi Winter, and these ladies rally our rugby mums to ensure there is a wide array of home baked goods on offer to go with your cup of tea. It’s incredible the feedback we get from travelling clubs about the Gundy cakes and slices.
So head on down to Riddles for a great day commencing at 8.30am on Saturday.
There will be lots of great rugby to watch and a fantastic atmosphere to enjoy your morning. Also here’s a big shout out to Dave O’Toole and the Gundy Hawks AFL club for making their field available to us.
Without their help we simply couldn’t fit this many kids in! Thanks guys.”
