Police have taken a keen focus to cracking down on vehicle crime. Police have confirmed a range of offenses including; drink driving, driving without a license and theft.
Goondiwindi Police intercepted a driver on the Barwon Highway Goondiwindi on Thursday August 20. The driver provided a positive roadside test and was transported to the Goondiwindi Police Station. The 46-year-old woman from Ipswich returned a reading of 0.296 which is almost six times the legal limit. The driver was released on bail to attend the Goondiwindi Magistrates Court on September 16.
On the night of Friday August 21, several break and enter offences occurred in the Goondiwindi Township. The Jolly Swagman Hotel saw a room entered and a set of car keys taken which resulted in the accompanying vehicle stolen. The vehicle was found the following day by Goondiwindi Police at Toomelah Mission in New South Wales.
Also on the night of August 21 a vehicle in Jacaranda Street was entered. The vehicle was ransacked and a pair of Oakley sunglasses stolen. Similarly vehicles on Marshall Street and Warden Goondiwindi were entered and rummaged through. Both vehicles had wallets stolen from within. Goondiwindi Police are urging residence to make sure owners lock their cars and to not leave wallets and valuable items in plain sight. On the afternoon of Saturday August 22, Goondiwindi Police intercepted a driver for a Random Breath Test. The 19-year-old man from Ipswich provided a positive roadside test and was transported to the Goondiwindi Police Station. The man provided a mid-range reading of 0.127 and will face Goondiwindi Magistrates Court on September 15.
In the evening of August 22, a 38-year-old man from Tenterfield was intercepted by Goondiwindi Police. The driver was found to have not had a current licence and was issued with a Notice to Appear before the Goondiwindi Magistrate on September 16.
In the early hours of Sunday August 23, Goondiwindi Police intercepted a vehicle in McLean Street Goondiwindi. The 25-year-old Goondiwindi man provided a positive roadside breath test and was transported to the Goondiwindi Police Station. The man allegedly returned a reading of 0.106 and will face Goondiwindi Magistrates Court on September 16 for the mid-range drink driving charge.
Saturday August 22 was Talwood’s big day hosting the Talwood Races. The weather held out and the dust was blowing as people from all over the Goondiwindi region headed the iconic race meet. The events numbers were slightly down on the previous year but all in all it was a successful day. Talwood Police report that there was only one incident to report with a 21-year-old Talwood man charged with Public Nuisance. The man will face Goondiwindi Magistrates Court next month on September 16.
