Don’t Panic – But Be Prepared

This is the message from Goondiwindi Regional Council Local Disaster Management Group Chair Councillor Rick Kearney in response to the weather associated with Ex-tropical cyclone Debbie.

Be preapred for storms“We are comfortable that whilst we might see up to 50mm of rain over the next few days, we should not face the same challenges as those further to the north and east of us.,”

Council’s Disaster Management team have been monitoring the events of the north through attendance at teleconferences and briefings by the Bureau of Meteorology and other emergency services.

“Our region appears to be just outside the area predicted to receive significant rainfalls so we are not likely to see significant impacts,”

“That does not mean that people should be complacent and you should ensure that your summer storm season preparations are up to date and that you stay across the news.”

The Bureau of Meteorology has forecast significant amounts of rainfall for Toowoomba and Eastern Downs over the coming days. For further information, check the BOM website at
