State Opposition Leader Deb Frecklington is calling on the State Government to back the LNP plan to air-condition all state schools over two terms as the countdown to “back to school” begins in a summer that is seeing the mercury rise.
Education Minister Grace Grace says the move however would not only be costly but would take between five to ten years to complete.
The Minister says sometimes it can cost more to upgrade the electrical works at schools to support new systems than the systems themselves.
She says the State Government was working with P&Cs to help air-condition state school classrooms.
“I think we do need to do more. We are working very much with P&Cs so we can bring about air-conditioning in classrooms. We’re looking at different ways that we might be able to assist.”
