Whilst the town of Goondiwindi has had very little rain to speak of, there have been considerable falls of rain in the catchment areas and council is asking all to keep rising river levels in mind.
“The weekend saw some significant falls in the Dumaresq and Macintyre River catchments that resulted in moderate flood level peaks at Texas and Yetman.”
“Based upon these peaks, the BOM have released a warning notice for a flood height up to 8 meters at Boggabilla, which equates to a little more than 7 metres at Goondiwindi.”
A flood of this level is regarded as moderate and causes little problem to the town however it may present some challenges to properties further west.
“The biggest concern is the predicted weather forecast in the coming weeks. “
“There may be very little rain in and around Goondiwindi but especially people camping on river banks along the river need to be very aware and conscious of what can happen and very quickly”
Cr Graeme Scheu says we all need to remember the message- “If it is flooded forget it.”
