A bonus for the region and events emerges in this week’s Council Budget with Goondiwindi Regional Council approving a new funding grant budget for tourism events in the region.
Goondiwindi Regional Council says it has created this policy in recognition of the role it can play in supporting events of economic benefit to the Region.
The funding program aims to position the region and grow its reputation as a tourism and events destination and to maximise the economic, media and community values of tourism events.
The additional Council funding also aims to promote the region as an area of preference for families, lifestyle and business opportunity and to facilitate a culture that supports a vibrant events calendar within the Goondiwindi region.
One of the organizers of a regional key event, Brett Corish, President of Hell of the West says theirs is a great example of how the community wins.
“Our committee works year-round behind the scenes, and our volunteers on the day are in the hundreds. We all do this because it is a great event, for not only the competitors, but also our community.”
“Tourism and Events Queensland data indicates Hell of the West generates over $700,000 for our local economy, which is just phenomenal. Goondiwindi Regional Council has always supported us proudly, but this extra funding will go a long way to keeping the event alive and continuing to grow.”
